How much you're willing to spend

You don't have to spend a fortune on a new stroller. Quality umbrella strollers range from about $150 to $400 and multi-purpose models range from about $500 to $1,400.

Check out the accessories that are included in the purchase price before you buy. Some brands, such as Valco, include rain covers, a foot muff and more. Others, such as Phil and Ted's, charge for anything extra. "You can add another $200 on top of the cost of your stroller," says Judd. "You may not be getting the deal you thought you were." Most stores arrange extras near the stroller. "If the wall is full of add-ons for the brand you're considering, you can expect to pay more."
