Eating More Fruit Can Make for Smarter Kids

There are so many studies telling new moms what they shouldn’t eat during pregnancy, so we’re happy to see one that tells us to eat something that we actually like.
A new study from the University of Alberta has found that prenatal fruit consumption can significantly boost your baby’s cognitive development.
The study, which was published in EbioMedicine, looked at almost 700 Edmonton-based children. Researchers controlled factors such as family income, education, and gestational age. It found that mothers who consumed more fruit during their pregnancy gave birth to children who performed better on developmental testing at one year of age. In fact, one of the biggest predictors of cognitive development was how much fruit moms consumed during pregnancy.
Pregnant mothers who ate six or seven servings of fruits and veggies a day had infants who placed six or seven points higher on the IQ scale at one year of age. Looks like an apple a day has more benefits than just keeping the doctor away.
